Brian MacLearn answered: 'How do you deal with writer's block?'. Writer's Block was created for the Ludum Dare39 Compo in 48 hours. The theme was 'Running out of power'. The theme was 'Running out of power'. It placed 23rd in Innovation and 25th in Mood (and 492nd in fun which is kind of the point with a writer's block;) ). University sim build 1.0.2 mac os. New Jersey writer, Michelle Bloch, presents her portfolio of graphic design projects, photography, and collection of writings on nature, everyday observations, and relationships.
The first time I really remember experiencing the infamous 'writer's block' was in my senior year of high school. Although at the time, I don't think I could have told you that that's what the problem was. I only knew that I felt all of my creativity had disappeared overnight. There was an emptiness that engulfed my heart and mind that muted my self-expression. I could remember the experience of writing well, but I just couldn't get myself to do it anymore.
This block lasted for at least six or seven years. I thought maybe this meant that all of the writing I did before was just a fluke. When my teachers told me I could write, they must have meant that I merely did well enough to complete their assignments. And all of my notebooks, well-worn and filled with promise, got shoved away into boxes (I'm pretty sure that they're still in those boxes).
Now, this was during a time before I knew what a blog was, or that I could Google 'how to DIY' the crap out of any dilemma in my life. So the return to writing was immeasurably slow. I had college writing assignments to finish, so I did. I had business letters and emails to write for work, did those too. Writing for myself, for the joy of it, didn't come until more recently.
There are a few things that I can clearly point to that have brought me this far through the block. They weren't necessarily done on purpose, but as I've been reading the lists of '10 Ways To Banish Writer's Block From Your Life' (and scoffing at the audacity of these bloggers), I've seen that some of my experience actually does line up with the advice.
So what is my sage advice for beating writer's block? Should I add some numbers to my list to make it more legit? Hmm, nah. I never did like numbers very much. Ohh, let's go with making things bold. Yeah, that'll do.
Big win at casino. Read. And read as widely as possible. I have always been an avid reader. My mentor once referred to the way I read as 'eating books'. But I didn't know it would actually influence my own writing. Silly me.
Are you a cisgender, straight, white male? Read a Latinx or Black woman's writings. Are you a suburban housewife? Read a memoir or biography about a Native American (or other indigenous people's from outside the United States). Find an author who is completely different from you and read their work. Let it inform you. Let it open your eyes to things you might not have seen otherwise.
Write everyday. I needed money to pay off debt and my friend convinced me to apply for a content writing job. This job forced me to write everyday for over a year. And half of the time, I was writing about teeth. Rollpong mac os.
Write even if it's mind-numbing. Build up that muscle memory. Type out every word that comes to mind without judgment. There's something crazy about repetition. When it came time to write about something I actually cared about, it came much easier because of that annoying discipline.
Go outside. Move your butt. This one I got from the same friend who harassed me for a year to apply for that job. She knew what was up, so she told me that when things get stale, go take a walk. Most of the time I was too lazy to follow her advice, but when I did it actually worked.

Troll people on the internet. No, don't! I'm just kidding. Trolling is terrible. How do people even have time for that?

Hang out with other writers. This one was absolutely key. I naturally gravitate towards creative people. What I didn't realize though is that despite the fact that I didn't write for a long time, I had a ridiculous amount of friends who did. And what did they encourage me to do by talking incessantly about their passions? You got it. To write.
I feel like even if I wasn't already inclined since birth to write, hanging out with writers will inspire people who hate writing to run to the store to pick out a pretty journal and super smooth pen. Or manly journal, whichever you fancy.

Now I can't promise that any of these things will work for you. I barely knew what they were doing for me when they were happening. There's no harm in trying though, right? If nothing else, you might read some amazing books, make new friends, and get some vitamin D. I consider that progress. And progress is at least moving in the right direction.
